Robbins later sold the game's copyright to a group led by Robert Tezak, who owned a funeral company. It was a $50,000 deal. Tezak started a company called International Games Inc. to market the UNO game. They set up shop in the building that housed the funeral home. Lewis Saltzman of Saltzman Printers in Maywood, Illinois produced the games.

When you're down to just one card, you need to let your opponent know fast by saying "uno" or pressing the "1" button. If you don't say anything, you'll have to hand over two more cards. The first person to run out of cards wins.

Action Cards You Can Take Advantage of

In addition to the number cards, there are a few other cards that help keep things interesting. These are called "action" cards which can change the outcome of the game quite easily, you just have to play them out well.

Let’s see these action cards, which are sometimes called symbol cards and their effect on the ongoing game. 

Draw Two Cards and Hope For The Best

When someone plays this card, the next player has to pick up two cards and give up their turn. You can only play it on a matching-color card or on another Draw Two. If this card is played at the start of the game, the first player draws two cards and gets to skip their turn.

Reverse Card, the Whirlwind of the Game

If the game is going clockwise, change to counterclockwise or vice versa depending on the way you are at your game. The UNO reverso card can only be played on a matching card or on another reverse card. If turned up at the beginning of the game, the dealer goes first and the player to the right of the dealer goes next.

The Wild Card

This card represents all four colors and can be placed on any card. The player must state which color it represents for the next player. It can be played regardless of whether another card is available. When played at the beginning of the game, the first player chooses which color to play.

Skip, It’s Not Your Turn

When a player plays this card, the next player must skip his turn. It can only be played on a card of the same suit or on another skip card. When played at the beginning of the game, the first player  loses his turn. The next player to the right of that player starts the game instead.

It’s Pretty Wild, The Wild Draw Four

This is the same as the Joker, except that the next player must also draw four cards and forfeit his turn. To play this card, you must have no other alternative cards that match the color of the card you just played. If you play this card illegally, the other player may challenge you to show your hand. If you are guilty, you must draw 4 cards. If not, the challenger must draw 6 cards instead. If this card is revealed at the beginning of the game, return it to the draw pile, shuffle it, and reveal a new card.

Extra Plus, The Wild Shuffle Hands Card

This card resets the game, the player gets all the cards. Shuffle and deal the cards back to all players, starting with the one to the left of the person who played the Wild Shuffle Hands card. Deal cards one by one, clockwise, until you run out of them. The player who played the Wild Shuffle Hands card chooses the color to resume play, which resumes in the current direction. If the Wild Shuffle Hands card was played at the start of the game, it acts like a Wild card. The first player chooses the color to begin play.

Wild Swap Hands Card, Everything Changes

This card lets you swap any card in your hand with another card. It's a Wild Card, so you can play it or not at any turn and choose the color. It’s wise to swap your cards with the player with the fewest cards. There is only one powerful action card per deck. If you get this at the start of the game, you can choose the color and swap hands with someone else. The Swap Hands card is a wild card, so the same rule applies. Once you play this card and swap hands with another player, your turn is over and you can't play a card until your next turn.

The Wild Customizable Card, When It’s Up to You

Each deck has three blank cards. Use these to write your own house rules. Before the game, agree on the rules and how many Wild Customizable cards to use. You can use one to three per game. Wild cards have the same rules, and the player who plays them chooses the color of play. If they are played at the start, the first player chooses the color of play. The same rule applies to the customizable card because it's a wild card. When you play this card, your turn is over.

UNO Flip

In UNO FLIP, you play like a regular UNO, but there are two sides to the deck: light and dark. You start with the Light Side, but when someone plays a FLIP card, the deck is flipped over and everyone plays off the Dark Side.

The Dark Side has different, more severe penalties. Players must play with the Dark Side cards until someone plays another FLIP card. Then play goes back to the Light Side. This continues until someone has played all the cards in their hand.
